About our storm damage roof report in Red Post Bridge
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. It’s yours to pass to your insurer. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We aren’t loss adjusters and can’t say whether a claim will be paid. Common reasons to book are stains appearing after strong winds and damaged ridges and hips, across gutters and fascias, flat roofs and slate and tile slopes.
Somewhere as small as Red Post Bridge, older roofs have frequently been repaired many times. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, and the difference matters, particularly to an insurer. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Practical tips
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe
- Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
- File receipts for anything you pay for
- Read your policy wording on storm damage
You get the report by email and pass it to your insurer yourself. It is your record to use.
A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Have loose slates, tiles and flashings seen to promptly.
What we do, step by step
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit usually takes an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Around Red Post Bridge, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.
- You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows and from the roof space where it is safe.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
How to prepare

Honest limits
A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:
- What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
- Whether your insurer will pay the claim
- Estimates of repair costs
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What this survey covers
- Flat roofs
- Flashings
- Ridges and hips
- Slate and tile slopes
- Gutters and fascias
- Chimney stacks
What you can safely check yourself
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
Why act early in Red Post Bridge
If the damage is partly wear and tear, it’s better to know. We record storm damage and older defects, so you know what the roof shows. For older village homes like those around Red Post Bridge, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Red Post Bridge questions
How do I find out if my home in Red Post Bridge is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Do you cover Red Post Bridge?
Yes, Red Post Bridge is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Red Post Bridge as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
How many surveys have you done?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Who handles emergency protection after a storm?
Call a roofer for emergency temporary protection. If it is safe, photograph the damage before it’s covered. Keep receipts in case your insurer asks for them.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
How long does the survey take?
Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. We will confirm the timing when you book.
Do you look in the roof space?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Red Post Bridge
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work around your tenants.
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

Leaks and storm damage in Red Post Bridge
Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
Anyone responsible for a site like John Hanson Community School will know that water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in. Landlords with a home close to Andover station may find that finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.
