About our drone roof survey in Red Post Bridge

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. Common reasons to book are worn lead at chimneys and walls and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors.

Some older homes in villages like Red Post Bridge are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

What we cannot see

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks

FAQs for Red Post Bridge

How do I find out if my home in Red Post Bridge is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Are there drone restrictions around Red Post Bridge?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

How soon will I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when you book.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Do you look in the roof space?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.

When to book a survey in Red Post Bridge

Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. The drone covers the surface area by area, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

Things that frequently lead to a survey include:

  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles

If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Their report turnaround times

What a roof survey includes

Surveys for landlords and agents in Red Post Bridge

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey seven days a week, which can make access easier.

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the addresses.

What happens on the day

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. Rural addresses near Red Post Bridge can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. We also look inside the roof space where it’s safe.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

Different roofs, different checks

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.

Can I check my roof myself?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Drone roof surveys in Red Post Bridge: local notes

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

Take a building like John Hanson Community School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
