Drone Roof Survey in Penton Corner
Not sure what state the roof is in? We carry out drone roof surveys in Penton Corner and across Hampshire, with plain-English findings.
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
Drone roof survey in Penton Corner
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. If you’ve noticed storm damage on steep or tall roofs and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
In a village or hamlet like Penton Corner, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

What this survey can’t tell you
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
Roof types and parts we check

- Chimney stacks
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
Surveys for landlords and agents in Penton Corner
Landlords and letting agents in Penton Corner book surveys as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Penton Corner
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
Take an older house close to Holy Trinity Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The size of the roof
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
- The shape of the roof and its details
To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details. We’ll confirm the figure before booking.
Booking your survey
The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, it’s useful to mention:
- Anything about access we should know
- Dates you’re working to, like exchange
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
We confirm the price for your survey before booking, so you know where you stand. Our price is from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
Common questions in Penton Corner
Is drone flying allowed in Penton Corner?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Penton Corner?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, with the most urgent first where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
Does the weather affect the survey?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
How it works
Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Older rural homes like those around Penton Corner can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Jot down any questions you want answered

What we’re asked to look at in Penton Corner
Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.
Common reasons to book include:
- Chimney tops in poor condition
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
If you look after a building such as Portway Junior School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
Before you book anyone
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
