Independent drone roof surveys in East Cholderton

Drone roof survey in East Cholderton

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. We will tell you if another approach would work better. Common reasons to book are wind damage high on the roof and cracked mortar along the ridge, across valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors.

In a village or hamlet like East Cholderton, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Checking the roof from ground level

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Questions from East Cholderton

Is drone flying allowed in East Cholderton?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in East Cholderton?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

When does the report arrive?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We can only inspect what we are given access to.

What’s in the survey report?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

Does the weather affect the survey?

It depends on the weather and the survey. High wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.

Drones, thermal imaging and East Cholderton roofs

Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you look after a building such as Amport Church of England Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Peter and St Paul, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

How the survey changes by roof type

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.

What we do, step by step

It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit normally takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Cottages and farmhouses around East Cholderton often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
