Independent storm damage roof reports in Standford

Different roofs, different checks

Clay and concrete tiles

A missing tile lets rain reach the underlay. We photograph each gap.

Slate roofs

Slates can slip or blow off in a storm, especially where the nails have corroded. We record which slates have moved and any signs of older nail fatigue.

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Standford

Most policies do not cover wear and tear. So it matters whether the damage came from the storm or from a roof that was already worn. We note signs of each: fresh breaks and recently moved slates or tiles, and older problems like corroded nails or worn mortar. We give an honest view of what we see. How the policy applies is for your insurer to decide. We survey flashings, ridges and hips and gutters and fascias, and the problems we are asked to look at most are loose or torn flashings and cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind.

Roofs in small places like Standford often stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A record with photographs is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What we do, step by step

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Older roofs in small places like Standford can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. You let us know when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. We view the roof from wherever it can safely be seen, including the loft where there’s access.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

Before we arrive

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached

Advice

Do you need a storm damage roof report in Standford?

Branches and trees frequently come down on roofs during storms. The report shows what was hit and the damage caused, with photos.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Damaged pots on the stack
  • Flat roof edges peeled back
  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof
  • Damaged ridges and hips

If you live in an older home near St Mark's Sacred Church, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • What exactly goes into their report
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • What they will not be able to tell you
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included

What a good roof survey covers

Wind, rain and roofs in Standford

An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.

If you own a rental within reach of Liphook station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. Take a building like Weyford Nursery and Primary School: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.

FAQs for Standford

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Standford?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do you cover Standford?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Standford as anywhere else.

Will you deal with the insurance company for me?

No. We are not loss adjusters and don’t act for you with the insurer. We provide an independent record of the roof for you to send to your insurer.

What wind speed counts as a storm?

It varies by policy. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but your policy sets the actual test.

My storm claim was turned down. What now?

Complain to your insurer first. If you’re still unhappy, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, though we cannot predict the outcome.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

How much is a storm damage roof report?

Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. It does not include repair costs, so you’ll need a roofer’s quote for those.

Checking the roof from the ground

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Height and safe access
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Roof area

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Helping us price your survey

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date

Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to phone 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Standford

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed in advance. We survey on any day of the week, which can make access easier.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.
