Storm damage roof report in Steeple: what you get
A storm damage roof report is an independent record of the damage to your roof after a storm. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. It’s yours to pass to your insurer. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We’re not loss adjusters, and we can’t tell you whether a claim will succeed. We’re frequently asked to look into flat roof edges peeled back and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, across chimney stacks, slate and tile slopes and flashings.
Somewhere as small as Steeple, older roofs have often been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, and the difference matters, particularly to an insurer. We look at everything that’s safely in view and set out what we find. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it’s worth finding the cause soon.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

How it works
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. Most visits take about one to two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Steeple frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- We check the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- We send you the report by email for your insurer.
Getting ready for the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared

Common roof problems in Steeple
Others book after an insurer has queried a claim. An independent report gives you another view of the roof. We cannot say whether the decision will change.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Damage from fallen branches or debris
- Broken or displaced guttering
- Loose or torn flashings
- Flat roof edges peeled back
If you live in an older home near Church of St Lawrence and All Saints, leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.

Checking the roof from ground level
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Roof area
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Height and safe access
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Prices start from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, access and the package you choose.
What we need to know
A few details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, it helps to mention:
- The address and postcode of the property
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.

Storm damage roof reports in Steeple: local notes
Steeple lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, and driving rain finds any gap they leave, and salt air slowly wears metal fixings. In Essex, older buildings are frequently clay-tiled, many with weatherboarding, alongside plenty of post-war and newer estates. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
For landlords with property near Southminster station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away.

Steeple questions
Is Steeple within the area you cover?
Yes, Steeple is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.
Do roofs near the sea, like those around Steeple, take more of a battering?
Yes, coastal weather is harder on roofs: there is more wind, and more salt in the air. Exposed details such as ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch, and Steeple is within about 2 miles of the coast.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only if it is safe. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
How experienced are you?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
Do you act for me with my insurer?
No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. Your insurer may appoint its own loss adjuster.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access when you book.
Tips that help
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
- Do not go onto the roof to take pictures
- Keep invoices for temporary repairs
- Read your policy wording on storm damage
If anything in the report is not clear, just ask us. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.
Store invoices and reports for any roof work. They can help show the roof was looked after.
