Storm damage roof report in Stroude
When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We’re not loss adjusters and cannot tell you if your claim will succeed. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. We survey gutters and fascias, ridges and hips and flat roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are water coming in after the storm and roofs hit by falling trees.
For a small place like Stroude, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Stroude questions
Do you cover smaller places like Stroude?
Yes, Stroude is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is my home in Stroude listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
How long is the visit?
Expect it to take an hour or two at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Will you check the loft?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when booking.
What wind speed counts as a storm?
There’s no single figure. Many use gusts of about 55 mph, but each policy sets its own definition. Your policy document will say.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Leaving storm damage can let water into the roof space and rooms below. Further water damage can blur what the storm actually did. Emergency temporary protection should be arranged with a roofer. Older and listed buildings around Stroude may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
How it works
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Rural addresses near Stroude can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
- The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
Getting a price

Wind, rain and roofs in Stroude
Botleys Mansion, about 2.7 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Stroude. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.
Anyone responsible for a site like St Ann's Heath Junior School will know that on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. If you live near a park such as Riverside Walk, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys.

We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. A report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Stroude
Landlords and building managers often need a written record after a storm. It helps when explaining damage to a building owner or insurer.
Problems we come across often include:
- Stains appearing after strong winds
- Damaged gutters and fascias
- Flat roof edges peeled back
- Slates and tiles blown off the roof
For an older house near a landmark like Christ Church, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.
