What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • The size of the roof
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Which survey package you book

Our price is from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.

Helping us price your survey

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

If you are buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you are ready.

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Stubbings

After a storm, safety comes first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. Emergency temporary protection, like covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. Typical surveys look at torn or lifted flat roof coverings and holes or cracks caused by debris, across gutters and fascias, flat roofs and chimney stacks.

Many homes in small places like Stubbings face open ground, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Tips that help

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
  • Keep receipts for any emergency work
  • Photograph the damage safely from below
  • Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe

Once we’ve been, the findings are written up with photos. It covers the damage, its likely cause and any older defects. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Stubbings

Is Stubbings in the area you cover?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Is Stubbings within the area you cover?

Yes, Stubbings is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.

Is wear and tear covered by insurance?

Wear and tear is not usually covered. Our report gives an honest view of what’s recent damage and what’s older wear. The claim decision is your insurer’s.

Do you act for me with my insurer?

No. We are not loss adjusters, and we do not negotiate claims. We give you an independent report of the damage for you to send to your insurer.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

How the survey changes by roof type

Clay and concrete tiles

Tiles without fixings can move more easily in wind. We record what we can see of the fixings.

Lead flashings

Wind can peel back flashings at abutments and stacks. Loose or damaged flashings are photographed and noted.

Storm damage roof reports around Stubbings

The wider area around Stubbings has a long history of building, with Harleyford Manor about 2.2 miles north-west. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.

Anyone responsible for a site like Burchetts Green CofE Infants' School will know that tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back. If you live in an older home near Church of St. James the Less, leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks. If you own a rental within reach of Furze Platt station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Stubbings

Damage left open lets in more rain. That can add to the damage and make it harder to separate from the storm. A roofer should deal with emergency protection quickly. In a place like Stubbings, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

What we do, step by step

We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Rural addresses near Stubbings can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
