Storm damage roof reports in Holloway

What we do, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere as small as Holloway, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. We record and photograph the damage.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Getting ready for the survey

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Book a survey

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email when you are ready.

How a storm damage roof report works in Holloway

When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We aren’t loss adjusters, and we can’t say whether a claim will be paid. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. If you are worried about stains appearing after strong winds and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

For a small place like Holloway, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned beforehand. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Can I check my roof myself?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Holloway

Do you cover Holloway?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and Holloway is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.

Do you cover smaller places like Holloway?

Yes, Holloway is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Do you act for me with my insurer?

No. We aren’t loss adjusters and do not act for you with the insurer. We provide an independent record of the roof for you to send to your insurer.

How should I record storm damage myself?

Please don’t climb onto the roof. Take photos from the ground or from windows. Note the date and time, and photograph any damage inside.

Storm damage roof reports around Holloway

Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. The wider area around Holloway has a long history of building, with Harleyford Manor about 2.7 miles north-west. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Saint John the Evangelist, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. If you let a flat or house near Furze Platt station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

What we’re asked to look at in Holloway

Roofs that were already worn are more likely to suffer in a storm. Nail fatigue, eroded ridge mortar and tired flashings can all fail in high winds. Our report notes both the storm damage and any older wear.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Damaged flat roof membrane
  • Water coming in after the storm
  • Holes or cracks caused by debris
  • Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls

If you look after a building like Burchetts Green CofE Infants' School, a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.

What to expect from a roof survey

Landlords, agents and block managers in Holloway

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:

  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Roof area
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.

Getting in touch

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Different roofs, different checks

Flat roof coverings

On flat roofs, storms can lift edges and tear membranes. Damage is photographed and described.

Lead flashings

Lifted flashings let rain run behind them into the roof. We note where this has happened and any damp inside.
