Before and after the survey

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
  • Photograph the damage safely from below
  • Ask a roofer for emergency temporary protection if water is coming in
  • Read your policy wording on storm damage

After the visit, we write up the report with photos of each area of damage. It covers the damage, its likely cause and any older defects. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

After a storm, look at the roof from the street or garden. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or lifted ridges. Don’t go up a ladder to look.

How a storm damage roof report works in Twineham

Wear and tear is normally excluded from home insurance. That makes the difference between storm damage and old wear important. Our report records both: recent damage alongside any older defects, like nail fatigue on slates or eroded pointing. We describe what we see, whichever way it points. How the policy applies is for your insurer to decide. If you’re worried about damage from fallen branches or debris and flashings pulled away from walls or stacks, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Being in a small place like Twineham makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Twineham questions

Do you cover smaller places like Twineham?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Twineham?

Yes, Twineham is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Twineham as anywhere else.

How are storm damage reports priced?

Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs aren’t part of the report.

What wind speed counts as a storm?

It varies by policy. About 55 mph is a common figure in many policies, but check your own wording.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to, and the report makes that clear.

Does someone need to be in?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Prices for storm damage roof reports in Twineham

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The size of the roof

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

What to tell us when you get in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • What made you get in touch
  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat

To book a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We’ll confirm the price before booking.

Do you need a storm damage roof report in Twineham?

Storms do not only affect pitched roofs. Wind can lift edges and tear coverings, and blocked outlets can leave water ponding after heavy rain. Our report covers flat and pitched roofs.

Problems we come across frequently include:

  • Ridge tiles that have come loose
  • Roofs hit by falling trees
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • New damp or leaks inside

If you let a flat or house near Burgess Hill station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away.

What a storm damage roof report doesn’t cover

It’s useful to know what a survey won’t do before you book:

  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • Areas we can’t see safely
  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Flat roofs
  • Flashings
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Ridges and hips

What we do, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes about one to two hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Older roofs in small places like Twineham can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

How to book

Wind, rain and roofs in Twineham

Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. Ockenden Manor, about 4.1 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Twineham. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Peter, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. If you look after a building such as Twineham CofE Primary School, a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.
