Upper Eashing: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Upper Eashing?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Upper Eashing?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

What do I do if water is coming in?

Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. Take photos from the ground first if it is safe. Keep receipts for any emergency work.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us the address and what you’d like to know. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Can I challenge a declined storm claim?

Complain to your insurer first. After that, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to look at it. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, but we cannot say how it will turn out.

Are you loss adjusters?

No. We’re not loss adjusters, and we do not negotiate claims. We give you an independent report of the damage, which you can pass to your insurer.

About our storm damage roof report in Upper Eashing

We inspect the roof from wherever it can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and higher points, from the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe. We photograph and describe each area of damage. We note any part we couldn’t see. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs and flashings, and people most often book us about water coming in after the storm and flashings pulled away from walls or stacks.

Somewhere as small as Upper Eashing, older roofs have often been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

What affects the price in Upper Eashing

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Helping us price your survey

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Anything about access we should know
  • When you need the report by
  • The kind of building and roof involved

Our phone lines are open seven days a week. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

How the survey works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a small place like Upper Eashing, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
  3. The roof is inspected from ground level, windows and the roof where it is safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. You receive the written report with photographs.

Getting ready for the survey

  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed

Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Upper Eashing

Gusts work at anything on a roof that is loose or exposed. Rain can then blow in where slates or tiles have gone. Most people book a report soon after a storm, when they’ve seen damage or water has come in.

We’re often asked to look at:

  • New damp or leaks inside
  • Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
  • Gutters pulled loose in the wind
  • Flat roof edges peeled back

If you live in an older home near St Mark's Church and Community Centre, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
  • What experience they bring
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What to expect from a roof survey

Wind, rain and roofs in Upper Eashing

Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts. About 2.7 miles north-east lies Loseley Park, a reminder of how long the area around Upper Eashing has been built on. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.

If you look after a building such as St Mark and All Saints Church of England Primary, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. If you live near a park like Under Green, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.

DIY checks: what’s safe

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Useful tips for Upper Eashing property owners

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:

  • Keep receipts for any emergency work
  • Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can
  • Read your policy wording on storm damage
  • Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it is safe to do so

Once we’ve been, the findings are written up with photos. It sets out what is damaged, the likely cause and any signs of older wear. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

Keep records of roof work and surveys. They can help show the roof was looked after.

What we can’t see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Areas we cannot see safely
  • A decision on your insurance claim
  • Acting for you with the insurer

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.
