Storm damage roof report in Walberton: what you get
When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We aren’t loss adjusters, and we cannot say whether a claim will be paid. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. If you’re worried about gutters pulled loose in the wind and stains appearing after strong winds, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Walberton, older cottages and farmhouses frequently have roofs that have been patched over many years. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

How it works
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes about one to two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older rural homes like those around Walberton can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
- We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
- The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Keep pets in another room

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Walberton
Is my home in Walberton listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Will you come out to Walberton?
Yes, Walberton is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
How do I arrange a storm damage roof report in Walberton?
The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Let us know the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll recommend the right survey. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
What if my insurer declines the claim?
Complain to your insurer first. After that, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to look at it. An independent report can add to your evidence, though we cannot predict the outcome.
Will my insurer pay for an old roof?
Most policies don’t cover wear and tear. We note both storm damage and older defects, so you know what the roof shows. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
Prices for storm damage roof reports in Walberton
Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
Getting in touch
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, let us know:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Anything about access we should know
- The property’s address and postcode
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or email us, and we will ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Before and after the survey
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Take photos of stains and damp inside
- Keep invoices for temporary repairs
- Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe
- Take photos from ground level or a window, never by climbing
If a claim is declined and you disagree, the first step is a complaint to the insurer. After that, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Keep the roof in good order between storms. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.
Leaks and storm damage in Walberton
Walberton is within about 4 miles of the coast, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Driving rain off the sea can be pushed into gaps that stay dry in calmer weather. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so check with the council.
If you let a flat or house near Barnham station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. Take a building like Walberton and Binsted CofE Primary School: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. The streets around a church like St Mary's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney.

What a storm damage roof report does not cover
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- Estimates of repair costs
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Flat roofs
- Ridges and hips
- Slate and tile slopes
- Chimney stacks
- Gutters and fascias
- Flashings
Can I check my roof myself?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.
