Storm damage roof report in Wesley End

Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: the ground, windows and vantage points, the loft where there is access, and the roof itself where that’s safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. If part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. You get a written report with photographs to give to your insurer. We survey flashings, flat roofs and gutters and fascias, and the problems we are asked to look at most are stains appearing after strong winds and ridge tiles that have come loose.

Roofs in small places like Wesley End frequently stand in the open, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

What we do, step by step

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes about one to two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Around Wesley End, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Useful tips for Wesley End property owners

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • File receipts for anything you pay for
  • Photograph damage inside the house too
  • Do not go onto the roof to take pictures
  • Read your policy wording on storm damage

You get the report by email and pass it to your insurer yourself. It’s your record to use.

Keep records of roof work and surveys. They help show the roof was in good order before a storm.

Checking the roof from ground level

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

How we price storm damage roof reports

We confirm the price for your roof before you book. These are the things that affect it:

  • The size of the roof
  • Which survey package you book
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Helping us price your survey

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • What made you get in touch

Once you know what you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We’ll suggest a package, agree the price and find a date.

Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Wesley End

Others book after an insurer has queried a claim. An independent report gives you another view of the roof. What happens next is up to the insurer.

A survey can pick up problems like:

  • Slipped or missing slates or tiles
  • Stains appearing after strong winds
  • Damaged pots on the stack
  • Ridge tiles that have come loose

If you live in an older home near Parish Church of St Peter and St Thomas, leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • When you will get the report
  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

What’s in a roof survey

Wesley End roofs and the weather

Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, and lots of post-war and modern estates besides. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. With Hedingham Castle about 4.8 miles south-east, Wesley End sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

FAQs for Wesley End

How do I find out if my home in Wesley End is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Wesley End?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

What does a storm damage report cost?

A storm damage report starts from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. The report does not include repair costs.

How many surveys have you done?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of customers are satisfied.

Are you loss adjusters?

No. Our report is an independent record for you to use. Your insurer may appoint its own loss adjuster.

Who handles emergency protection after a storm?

Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. If it’s safe, photograph the damage before it is covered. Keep receipts in case your insurer asks for them.

Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?

Each policy has its own definition. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but your policy sets the actual test.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A clear, independent record helps you explain the damage to your insurer. It sets out what we found and the likely cause, alongside any photos you took yourself. Older cottages and farmhouses around Wesley End can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we will tell you which fits.
