Storm damage roof report in Whippingham
A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. It’s a written report with photos, sent by email. It isn’t a repair quote and doesn’t include repair costs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. We survey slate and tile slopes, gutters and fascias and ridges and hips, and common reasons people get in touch are new damp or leaks inside and damaged pots on the stack.
Somewhere as small as Whippingham, older roofs have often been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. We look at everything that’s safely in view and set out what we find. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Questions from Whippingham
Is the coastal weather around Whippingham hard on roofs?
It can do. Within about 2 miles of the sea, as Whippingham is, metal fixings wear faster and gales find any loose ridge or slate.
Will you come out to Whippingham?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
We cannot say whether a claim will be paid. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.
Do you act for me with my insurer?
No. We aren’t loss adjusters and don’t act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage for you to send to your insurer.
How are storm damage reports priced?
A storm damage report starts from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. The report doesn’t include repair costs.
Do you look in the loft space?
If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roof coverings
On flat roofs, storms can lift edges and tear membranes. Damage is photographed and described.
Lead flashings
When flashings lift, water can get behind them. We note where this has happened and any damp inside.
What happens on the day
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where applicable. Most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a small place like Whippingham, access is typically the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
- The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
- We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.
Before the survey
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear

What happens if roof problems are left?
Damage left open lets in more rain. That can add to the damage and make it harder to separate from the storm. A roofer should deal with emergency protection quickly. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Whippingham, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Whippingham roofs and the weather
Whippingham is within about 2 miles of the coast. What counts as a storm is set by each policy, frequently gusts of around 55 mph, and the insurer makes the decision. About 0.7 miles north lies Osborne House, a reminder of how long the area around Whippingham has been built on. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
The streets around a church such as St. Mildred's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in. Take a building like Queensgate Foundation Primary: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. For landlords with property near Ryde Pier Head station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

Checking the roof from ground level
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
