Storm damage roof report in Whitemans Green

Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. It’s yours to pass to your insurer. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We’re not loss adjusters, and we can’t tell you whether a claim will succeed. We survey ridges and hips, slate and tile slopes and gutters and fascias, and common reasons people get in touch are gaps where slates or tiles have gone and damaged pots on the stack.

Many homes in small places like Whitemans Green face open ground, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A record with photographs is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photographs show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

What we are asked to look at in Whitemans Green

Roofs that were already worn are more likely to suffer in a storm. Nail fatigue, eroded ridge mortar and tired flashings can all fail in high winds. Our report notes both the storm damage and any older wear.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind
  • Lead lifted at abutments
  • Flat roof edges peeled back
  • Gutters pulled loose in the wind

Take an older house close to Holy Trinity Church: old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Their report turnaround times

What a good roof survey covers

Common questions in Whitemans Green

Do you cover smaller places like Whitemans Green?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

How do I find out if my home in Whitemans Green is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Do you use drones?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. The roof space can show things the outside can’t, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.

How should I record storm damage myself?

Please do not climb onto the roof. Photograph the damage from below or from a window. Note the date and time, and photograph any damage inside.

Do you act for me with my insurer?

No. We’re not loss adjusters, and we do not negotiate claims. We give you an independent report of the damage, which you can pass to your insurer.

How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?

It depends on your policy. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies. Check your policy wording.

What this survey can’t tell you

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
  • The outcome of a claim
  • Your insurer’s view of the claim

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What affects the price in Whitemans Green

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Height and safe access

Lead flashings

Flashings can lift or pull away from walls and chimneys in strong winds. We record which are loose or damaged.

Flat roof coverings

Debris blown onto a flat roof can puncture the covering or block outlets. Any damage is recorded with photos.

Why it is worth a survey now in Whitemans Green

Once the storm has passed, damage that looked minor can let water in for months. Acting quickly typically means less damage overall. Around Whitemans Green, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both inc. VAT. You’ll know the exact price before booking.

The survey, step by step

We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. All in, the survey usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Cottages and farmhouses around Whitemans Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. We look at the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. We send you the report by email for your insurer.
