Storm damage roof report in Widmer End

After a storm, safety comes first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Keep receipts for any emergency work. We survey slate and tile slopes, ridges and hips and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are roofs hit by falling trees and lead lifted at abutments.

In a village or hamlet like Widmer End, older cottages and farmhouses frequently have roofs that have been patched over many years. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, and the difference matters, especially to an insurer. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it’s worth finding the cause soon.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

How the survey works

We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Somewhere as small as Widmer End, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from ground level, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. You receive the written report with photos.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
  • Note where any stains or damp appear

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

When to book a survey in Widmer End

A storm often finds a roof’s existing weak spots. Corroded nails on slate roofs, worn mortar on ridges and old flashings can all give way. Our report notes both the storm damage and any older wear.

Typical things we’re asked to look at include:

  • Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
  • Loose or torn flashings
  • Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
  • Roofs hit by falling trees

Shop and office owners around Eden may find that water through a ceiling can damage stock and close a sales floor, so the source needs finding fast.

What to check before booking

  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Their report turnaround times
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours

What a roof survey includes

Widmer End roofs and the weather

About 1.9 miles south-west lies Hughenden Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Widmer End has been built on. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed.

If you let a flat or house near High Wycombe station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. Take a building like Widmer End Combined School: on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.

Widmer End is about 3 miles north-east of High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire. In Widmer End, as across Buckinghamshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. Widmer End is one of the places in Buckinghamshire where we work for storm damage roof reports. We also survey roofs in Reading.

Surveys in HP15 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If you need a storm damage roof report at a property on Haines Road, George's Hill and Primrose Green or a nearby road, we can help. We also cover Spurlands End (1 mile north-east), Cryers Hill (1 mile west), Great Kingshill (1 mile north-west), Four Ashes (1 mile south-west) and Hazlemere (1 mile south-east). Larger places within reach include Aylesbury (11 miles north), High Wycombe (3 miles south-west), Chesham (6 miles north-east), Marlow (7 miles south), Amersham (5 miles east) and Beaconsfield (5 miles south-east).

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:

  • Which survey package you book
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The size of the roof
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

What we need to know

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will explain the options and the price.

What a storm damage roof report does not cover

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • Estimates of repair costs

Common questions in Widmer End

Do you carry out roof surveys in Widmer End?

Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Widmer End is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details.

Is my home in Widmer End listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

What’s the best way to book?

To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.

Is wear and tear covered by insurance?

Wear and tear is normally excluded from home insurance. We note both storm damage and older defects, so it’s clear what we found. How the policy applies is up to your insurer.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when you book.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the freeholder or managing agent. Tell us about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.
