What we’re asked to look at in Widmore

Others book after an insurer has queried a claim. You get an independent record of what the roof shows. We cannot say whether the decision will change.

Things that frequently lead to a survey include:

  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof
  • Stains appearing after strong winds
  • Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind
  • Damage from fallen branches or debris

If you run a business near The Mall, a leak can close part of a shop or office, so finding the cause quickly matters.

Before booking anyone

  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely

What a roof survey includes

About our storm damage roof report in Widmore

Wear and tear is typically excluded from home insurance. So it matters whether the damage came from the storm or from a roof that was already worn. We note signs of each: fresh breaks and recently moved slates or tiles, and older problems such as corroded nails or worn mortar. We describe what we see, whichever way it points. Your insurer then decides how its policy applies. If you’ve noticed flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and damaged ridges and hips, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In London, leaks often start somewhere hidden: a butterfly roof’s central valley gutter, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or a flat roof over a back addition. Whether you are tracing a leak or recording storm damage in Widmore, those are among the first places to look. Water from a hidden gutter can run along joists and show up a room or two away.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

When you need someone else

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Acting for you with the insurer
  • Areas we can’t see safely
  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Flashings
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flat roofs
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Chimney stacks

Why get it checked now?

With an independent report, you have something specific to show your insurer. It sets out what we found and the likely cause, so you’re not relying only on your own photos. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.

Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.

What we do, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. In Widmore, as in much of London, a good many properties are flats or terraces without side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us when booking.

  1. First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
  2. We look at the roof from wherever it is safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
  5. We send you the report by email for your insurer.

How to prepare

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

What affects the price in Widmore

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • Roof area

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Helping us price your survey

We’ll typically ask about:

  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window

Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and give us some details about the property and we will recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

Storm damage roof reports around Widmore

Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. If your home in Widmore is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts. Historic houses like Bromley Palace, about 1.1 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Widmore goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

If you live in an older home near Church of St George, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. Take a building like Bullers Wood School for Boys: a leak through a large roof is frequently found some distance from where the water shows inside.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Widmore

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Widmore?

It rarely stops a survey, but it’s worth planning. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we will work around them.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Widmore?

Yes, Widmore is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

What’s the best way to book?

Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Surveys run seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.

What if the roof was already worn?

Most policies don’t cover wear and tear. Our report records storm damage and any older wear we see, so you know what the roof shows. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.

Can I challenge a declined storm claim?

Start by complaining to the insurer. The Financial Ombudsman Service may look at it if that doesn’t resolve it. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.

What you can safely check yourself

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
