Storm damage roof reports near Wingrave

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridge and hip tiles

A lifted ridge tile can let water into the roof. Each one is recorded with photos.

Chimney stacks

Flashings around stacks can lift in strong winds. We photograph any we find.

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Wingrave

The Financial Ombudsman asks three questions when it looks at storm complaints: were there storm conditions on or around the date, is the damage consistent with a storm, and was the storm the main cause. We record what the roof shows about the damage and its likely cause. Weather records for the date are for you or your insurer to check. If you’re worried about flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and flat roof edges peeled back, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Being in a small place like Wingrave makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. Photos of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Wingrave

We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, useful for planning maintenance.

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Wingrave. For a price for a let property or a block, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Wingrave

Leaving storm damage can let water into the loft space and rooms below. That can add to the damage and make it harder to separate from the storm. A roofer should deal with emergency protection quickly. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Wingrave, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT.

What you get with us

How the survey works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect what can be seen safely, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Somewhere like Wingrave needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.

  1. First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. We record and photograph the damage.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Getting ready for the survey

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

Arrange a survey

A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Advice

Wind, rain and roofs in Wingrave

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. Ascott House, about 2.6 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wingrave. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you own a rental within reach of Cheddington station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. Take an older house close to Church of St Peter and St Paul: old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

FAQs for Wingrave

Is my home in Wingrave listed or in a conservation area?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Is Wingrave within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How should I record storm damage myself?

Only from the ground or from windows. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. Binoculars can help you see damage from below and we’ll inspect the rest from safe positions.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

How long does the survey take?

Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. We’ll confirm the timing when booking.

What we’re asked to look at in Wingrave

Flat roofs can be damaged too. Wind can lift edges and tear coverings, and blocked outlets can leave water ponding after heavy rain. Our report covers flat and pitched roofs.

Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Stains appearing after strong winds
  • Broken or displaced guttering
  • Damage from fallen branches or debris
  • Loose or torn flashings

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wingrave Church of England Combined School, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • What insurance they carry
  • What follow-up you get after the report
