What affects the price in Alverstoke

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • How big the roof is

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What to let us know when you get in touch

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • What made you get in touch
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the details.

About our thermal roof survey in Alverstoke

Thermal imaging is useful when a damp patch has no clear cause. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. Common reasons to book are leaks far from where the stain appears and damp around roof outlets and upstands, across pitched roof slopes, loft conversions and insulated roof spaces.

Villages like Alverstoke often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

The survey, step by step

Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Around Alverstoke, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Advice

When you need someone else

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • An energy rating for the building
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will recommend the right survey. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs
  • Flat roofs

What we are asked to look at in Alverstoke

Building owners and managing agents use thermal surveys to plan work on larger flat roofs. It can suggest which areas may be wet and which seem dry, so moisture readings can be targeted.

We are frequently asked to look at:

  • Moisture around outlets and upstands
  • Leaks far from where the stain appears
  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Patches of heat loss across the roof

If you live in an older home near The Little Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Which limits apply to the survey

What’s in a roof survey

Why get it checked now?

Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. Outbuildings and barns around Alverstoke are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

What you can safely check yourself

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey.

Thermal roof surveys in Alverstoke: local notes

The coast is about 1 mile or less from Alverstoke. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

If you run a business near Tricorn Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. Take a building like Alverstoke Community Infant School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Alverstoke

Is my home in Alverstoke listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Do you cover smaller places like Alverstoke?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

How soon will I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.

Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?

On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

What conditions are best for thermal imaging?

Conditions on the day affect the results. A sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air all help. Rain and strong wind can make the images less clear, so we discuss the forecast when booking.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.

How much does a thermal roof survey cost?

Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
