Balls Cross Thermal Roof Survey

Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof in Balls Cross, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photos.

  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Damp around chimneys and parapets
  • Wet areas near outlets and upstands

Thermal roof surveys in Balls Cross

Different roofs, different checks

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Water under felt or asphalt can stay hidden for years. The camera can give clues to where it’s sitting, when the conditions allow.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Even on pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp. We explain what can and cannot be read from them.

Thermal roof survey in Balls Cross

Thermal imaging is useful when a damp patch has no clear cause. Water can travel some distance under a roof covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. Typical surveys look at damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and ceilings that feel colder in places, across insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and pitched roof slopes.

Somewhere as small as Balls Cross, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, like when you want to compare after future work.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Confirming water without moisture readings
  • The condition of timbers we can’t see
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Balls Cross

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • How big the roof is
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Getting in touch

These details help when you get in touch:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.

Why get it checked now?

A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so you know where to put things right. Outbuildings and barns around Balls Cross are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us about the roof. We’ll confirm the figure before booking.

The survey, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older rural homes like those around Balls Cross can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Common questions in Balls Cross

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Balls Cross?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you cover Balls Cross?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and Balls Cross is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. We’ll confirm the timing as you book.

Does the weather affect a thermal survey?

The results depend on the weather. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.

Will I get photos?

Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.

Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?

No, not on its own. It shows temperature, and wet materials often behave differently from dry ones. We confirm what it suggests with moisture readings.

What insurance do you have?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

Airspace, weather and Balls Cross roofs

If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Petworth House, about 2.9 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Balls Cross. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

The streets around a church like Holy Trinity Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
