Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Belmont

Wet insulation under a flat roof covering holds heat for longer than dry. So a wet patch can show as a warmer or cooler area on the camera. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, which is hard to judge by eye. Moisture readings are then used to check what the camera suggests. Typical surveys look at ceilings that feel colder in places and damp around chimneys and parapets, across commercial roofs, flat roofs and pitched roof slopes.

London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Belmont is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Loft conversions
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Flat roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Commercial roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes

Tips that help

Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Keep a record of when stains appear
  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
  • Check outlets after heavy rain
  • File the images with your roof records

Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.

Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.

Airspace, weather and Belmont roofs

With Headstone Manor about 1.6 miles west, Belmont sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. If your home in Belmont is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

For a London address like Belmont, it helps to know about controlled parking before the day, along with any off-street space. If you look after a building like St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Belmont is about 1 mile south-west of Stanmore, in Greater London. We provide thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Belmont and the surrounding area. We cover towns and villages across Greater London, from the larger towns to small villages. There’s also a page for London.

We also cover the places around Belmont: Harrow Weald (1 mile west), Stanmore (1 mile north-east), Headstone (2 miles west), Brockley Hill (2 miles north-east) and Hatch End (2 miles west). How the survey changes by roof type

Loft insulation

From inside the loft, thermal imaging can show gaps in insulation and cold spots. We look where there is safe access.

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.

When to book a survey in Belmont

After a repair, some owners want to know whether the roof has dried out. A thermal survey with moisture readings can show whether wet areas remain, given suitable conditions on the day.

Typical things we are asked to look at include:

  • Stains that keep coming back
  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Ceilings that feel colder in places
  • Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering

If you live in an older home near Church of St Anselm, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

What to check before booking

  • Their insurance cover
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
  • What the survey won’t cover
  • Whether you get a written report with photos

FAQs for Belmont

Are there drone restrictions around Belmont?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying, and the rest of the survey does not depend on the drone.

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Belmont?

Parking in Belmont, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot.

Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?

Conditions on the day affect the results. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Rain and strong wind can make the images less clear, so we talk through the forecast as you book.

Will thermal imaging find my leak?

It can help narrow down where water may be getting in. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. It is used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings because the camera can’t confirm water on its own.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we are given access to.

How experienced are you?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

How long does the survey take?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The written report follows by email.

How it works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take an hour or two for a house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us when booking.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

How to prepare

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Keep pets in another room
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Related advice

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
