Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Boxgrove
We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey ceilings below the roof, flat roofs and insulated roof spaces, and common reasons people get in touch are damp around roof outlets and upstands and patches of heat loss across the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Boxgrove, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Which survey package you book
- How big the roof is
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- The kind of building and roof involved
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- What’s prompted the survey
You can call us seven days a week. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Can I check my roof myself?
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Why act early in Boxgrove
Once insulation under a membrane is wet, it tends to stay wet. In time, it stops insulating properly and can damage the deck. Finding the wet areas sooner keeps the work smaller. Around Boxgrove, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.

What this survey cannot tell you
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

Thermal roof surveys in Boxgrove: local notes
Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. With Goodwood House about 1.5 miles north-west, Boxgrove sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead.
Take an older house close to The Priory Church of St Mary and St Blaize: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. If you look after a building such as Boxgrove CofE Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Boxgrove is about 3 miles north-east of Chichester, in West Sussex. Roofs in Boxgrove get the same thorough look as anywhere else in West Sussex. Boxgrove is one of the towns and villages in West Sussex we cover for thermal roof surveys. We also survey roofs in Portsmouth.
Postcode districts we cover here for thermal roof surveys: PO18. If you need a thermal roof survey at a property on The Street, Priory Close and Kirkby Close or a nearby road, we can help. Neighbouring places we cover for thermal roof surveys include Halnaker (1 mile north), Tangmere (1 mile south), Strettington (1 mile west), Waterbeach (1 mile north-west) and Westerton (1 mile west). Further out, we also cover Worthing (14 miles east), Bognor Regis (5 miles south), Chichester (3 miles south-west), Selsey (9 miles south), Littlehampton (9 miles east) and Emsworth (10 miles west).
Landmarks near Boxgrove
We work in homes and buildings around Ormiston Six Villages Academy and The Winterton Arms Public House and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Chichester station, roughly 3.5 miles south-west of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find Chichester Centre (2.7 miles west) and Tote Copse Castle (1.9 miles south-east). Not far away are Levin Down.
How the survey works
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. Cottages and farmhouses around Boxgrove often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Getting ready for the survey
- Let us know where we can park nearby
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Leave side gates unlocked

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Boxgrove
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Boxgrove?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Boxgrove?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Goodwood Aerodrome is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather, and the rest of the survey does not depend on the drone.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. It shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
What do I do with the report?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
