Tangmere Thermal Roof Survey
Not sure what state the roof is in? You can book a thermal roof survey in Tangmere and across West Sussex.
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Cold areas below the roof
What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- The size of the roof
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.
Helping us price your survey
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- What kind of property and roof it is
When you are ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or email us. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.
About our thermal roof survey in Tangmere
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. If you’ve noticed water getting in at parapets and stacks and damp around roof outlets and upstands, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Places like Tangmere can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.
We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

Thermal roof surveys around Tangmere
In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Tangmere is about 3 miles from Goodwood Aerodrome. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Take an older house close to St Andrew's Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Goodwood House, about 1.8 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Tangmere. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
Tangmere is about 3 miles east of Chichester, in West Sussex. We survey roofs in Tangmere and the rest of West Sussex. Our West Sussex coverage includes Tangmere and the places around it. For surveys nearby, see our Portsmouth page.

Further out, we also cover Worthing (14 miles east), Bognor Regis (4 miles south), Chichester (3 miles west), Selsey (9 miles south), Littlehampton (8 miles east) and Emsworth (10 miles west).

FAQs for Tangmere
Is my home in Tangmere listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you cover smaller places like Tangmere?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we will agree the details as you book.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the report shows where to look more closely.
Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?
It’s a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. The results depend on conditions on the day. Where it cannot be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, like electronic leak detection.
Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?
On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. We explain what the images can and can’t tell you, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
What this survey can’t tell you
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- The condition of timbers we can’t see
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

Common roof problems in Tangmere
Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Trapped moisture, missing insulation and hidden heat loss are three examples. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Tangmere Primary Academy, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Roof by roof
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below often show. Shiny surfaces can reflect heat, so we take care reading the images.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Water often gets in where roofs meet walls, parapets or valley gutters. Thermal imaging can help show damp patterns around them.
How it works
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes between one and two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. A visit to Tangmere is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before the survey
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Jot down any questions you want answered
