Thermal Roof Survey in Brandfold
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof for Brandfold, from an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photographs.
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
Thermal roof survey in Brandfold: what you get
We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We survey loft conversions, ceilings below the roof and insulated roof spaces, and common reasons people get in touch are leaks that are hard to trace and cold spots on ceilings under the roof.
Some older homes in villages like Brandfold are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Tips that help
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
- File the images with your roof records
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. There is a 12-month follow-up too.
Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.

Different roofs, different checks
GRP fibreglass roofs
Glossy GRP can reflect heat. We allow for reflections and confirm findings with moisture readings.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s happening underneath. We combine the images with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access.
Drones, thermal imaging and Brandfold roofs
Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. You will also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Scotney Castle, about 3.5 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Brandfold. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Goudhurst and Kilndown Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. The streets around a church such as St Mary's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Brandfold
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Brandfold?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you cover Brandfold?
Yes, Brandfold is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.
How do I book a survey in Brandfold?
Just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
What will the report tell me?
Written findings with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the report shows where to look more closely.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
What happens on the day
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Older rural homes like those around Brandfold can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
How to prepare
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Leave it or get it looked at?
A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so you know where to put things right. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.
