Thermal roof surveys near Crooked Billet

About our thermal roof survey in Crooked Billet

A thermal survey isn’t a quick fix for every roof problem. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. That’s why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. Where something can’t be confirmed, we say what would help next. Typical surveys look at leaks far from where the stain appears and areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions, on loft conversions, commercial roofs and flat roofs.

London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. We take care to focus on the roof we have been asked to look at, in Crooked Billet as anywhere. Tell us about the building and access as you book. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Different roofs, different checks

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

These coverings sit directly on the layers beneath, so temperature differences often show through. Any patterns are checked with moisture readings.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Thin membranes can show patterns from the layers beneath. Shiny surfaces can reflect heat, so we take care reading the images.

How it works

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a London conversion, the way into the roof space is frequently from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent

Common questions in Crooked Billet

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Crooked Billet?

Sometimes, yes. If Crooked Billet has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer.

How do I find out if my home in Crooked Billet is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Do you use drones?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

Will the camera show exactly where the water is?

The camera doesn’t see water itself. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, but we check each finding with moisture readings.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

What do I do with the report?

We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Crooked Billet?

Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

How we price thermal roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Helping us price your survey

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email to find out.

Flying and imaging in Crooked Billet

Historic houses like Southside House, about 0.5 miles south-west, show how far back building in the area around Crooked Billet goes. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. If your home in Crooked Billet is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Shop and office owners around Southside Wandsworth may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If you look after a building like Wimbledon College, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

What we’re asked to look at in Crooked Billet

After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
  • Moisture around outlets and upstands
  • Stains that keep coming back

For a London address like Crooked Billet, it helps to know about controlled parking before the day, along with any off-street space.
