Thermal imaging roof survey in Eddington, Kent
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof across Eddington, using drones and thermal imaging where applicable. Get in touch for a price.
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
Checking the roof from ground level
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
About our thermal roof survey in Eddington
On a flat roof, wet insulation holds heat longer than dry insulation. So a wet patch can show as a warmer or cooler area on the camera. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, which is hard to judge by eye. We then check those areas with moisture readings. We’re often asked to look into damp around chimneys and parapets and areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions, on ceilings below the roof, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs.
Places like Eddington can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.
It isn’t only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Eddington
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it when booking and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
Why act early in Eddington
A damp patch that keeps coming back typically has a cause that hasn’t been found. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, rather than more guesswork. On a bungalow or cottage around Eddington, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.
Every price we give includes VAT. Prices start from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.
Why book with us
- Surveys seven days a week

How the survey changes by roof type
Loft insulation
In the roof space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We look where there’s safe access.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Glossy GRP can reflect heat. We allow for reflections and confirm findings with moisture readings.
What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
To price your survey, we check:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Roof area
- Height and safe access
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
What to let us know when you contact us
We’ll normally ask about:
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- What made you get in touch
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. The price is agreed before a date is set.
How the survey works
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Parking around Eddington is typically easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Preparing for the visit
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Leave a clear route to the loft
How to book
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Thermal roof surveys in Eddington: local notes
Eddington lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind off the sea can be strong. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Take an older house close to Church of St Martin: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like Herne Bay High School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
Eddington is about 1 mile south-west of Herne Bay, in Kent. We visit Eddington as part of our work across Kent, for homes and businesses alike. Eddington is one of the places in Kent where we work. Our Canterbury page covers surveys nearby.

Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?
The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. The survey isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the images show where improvements may help.
What does a thermal roof survey show?
A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. We check what it shows with moisture readings.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.
