Thermal roof survey in Elson
Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, a strong wind or heavy cloud can make the images less clear. We talk through the forecast when booking, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. Typical surveys look at patches of heat loss across the roof and wet areas near outlets and upstands, across commercial roofs, ceilings below the roof and flat roofs.
Around Elson, lots of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

What we do, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take about 1–2 hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Elson is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from the ground and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
- You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.

FAQs for Elson
Is Elson within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Is drone flying allowed in Elson?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Solent Airport is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying, and the rest of the survey doesn’t depend on the drone.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Elson?
To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
How long will you be at the property?
Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The report follows by email.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Elson?
Buyers sometimes want more than a visual look at the roof. A Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where applicable and a same-day report, which suits a purchase that’s moving quickly.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
Shop and office owners around Tricorn Centre may find that large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see by drone or thermal camera.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- What insurance they carry
- Is VAT included in the price?
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Their track record with similar roofs
Checking the roof from ground level
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Flying and imaging in Elson
The coast is about 2 miles or less from Elson, and coastal wind can be strong. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there.
If you look after a building such as Elson Infant School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church such as Church of St Thomas are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
