About our thermal roof survey in Enborne Row

What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. It is useful to have a sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air. Rain, a strong wind or heavy cloud can make the images less clear. We talk through the forecast as you book, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. Common reasons to book are heat escaping through the roof and wet insulation beneath the membrane, across loft conversions, commercial roofs and insulated roof spaces.

In a small place like Enborne Row, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Can I check my roof myself?

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Enborne Row: your questions answered

Will you come out to Enborne Row?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you cover Enborne Row?

Yes, Enborne Row is within the area we cover. We work right across London and South East England. Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Do I need to be at home?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Does the report include photos?

Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.

How experienced are you?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.

What does the report include?

A photo-illustrated written report, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

When you need someone else

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • A formal energy assessment
  • A structural engineer’s assessment

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roofs we survey in Enborne Row

  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Loft conversions
  • Commercial roofs
  • Flat roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Enborne Row?

Cold rooms under a roof, or high heating bills, lead some people to ask about heat loss. Missing or slipped insulation can stand out as temperature differences, particularly when it’s warm inside and cold outside.

We’re often asked to look at:

  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Wet areas near outlets and upstands
  • Leaks far from where the stain appears
  • Gaps in loft insulation

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Enborne C.E. Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • What experience they bring

What to expect from a roof survey

What a survey costs

To price your survey, we check:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

What to let us know when you contact us

What helps most when you contact us:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date

A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Thermal roof surveys around Enborne Row

Stargroves, about 2.6 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Enborne Row. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St Luke Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

What happens on the day

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. In a hamlet or village like Enborne Row, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Tips from our surveys

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
  • Note where damp appears and after what weather
  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
  • Use the report as a baseline for later checks

After the visit, we put the thermal images, photographs and moisture readings into one report. We explain what each image may mean, with our recommendations. With a Premium Survey, you get the report the same day.

Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Catching a leak early stops insulation getting soaked.
