Thermal Roof Survey in Fawler
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof around Fawler, with findings in writing and pictures to back them up. Weekday and weekend visits available.
- Stains that keep coming back
- Water that travels before it shows
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
When you need someone else
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.
What we look at
- Insulated roof spaces
- Flat roofs
- Loft conversions
- Commercial roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
How a thermal roof survey works in Fawler
Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We talk through the forecast when you book, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. We survey loft conversions, commercial roofs and insulated roof spaces, and the problems we are asked to look at most are wet areas near outlets and upstands and damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys.
In a small place like Fawler, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
After the visit, you get a report with photographs, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Different roofs, different checks
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Built-up felt and asphalt roofs can hide trapped water for a long time. The camera can give clues to where it is sitting, given suitable conditions on the day.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Glossy GRP can reflect heat. We allow for reflections and confirm findings with moisture readings.
The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey normally takes between one and two hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a hamlet or village like Fawler, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Questions from Fawler
How do I find out if my home in Fawler is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is Fawler in the area you cover?
Yes, Fawler is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
What insurance do you have?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only if it is safe. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
What happens next?
You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
What will the report tell me?
A photo-illustrated written report, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Fawler?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or email us with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
How we price thermal roof surveys
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How big the roof is
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
What to let us know when you get in touch
What helps most when you contact us:
- What kind of property and roof it is
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.
What you can safely check yourself
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
What a thermal roof survey looks like in Fawler
Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
The streets around a church such as Church of the Holy Trinity are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Historic houses like Blenheim Palace, about 4.4 miles east, show how far back building around Fawler goes. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Anyone responsible for a site like Finstock Church of England Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
