Thermal imaging roof survey in Fleet Marston, Buckinghamshire
A careful look at the roof at your property in Fleet Marston, and put it all in a written report with photos.
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Stains that keep coming back
How a thermal roof survey works in Fleet Marston
We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey insulated roof spaces, flat roofs and commercial roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are cold areas below the roof and missing or slipped insulation.
In a small place like Fleet Marston, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

Airspace, weather and Fleet Marston roofs
A number of Buckinghamshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Waddesdon Manor, about 3.1 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Fleet Marston. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you look after a building such as Green Ridge Primary Academy, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Fleet Marston is about 2 miles north-west of Aylesbury, in Buckinghamshire. Fleet Marston is one of many places we visit across Buckinghamshire, for homes and businesses alike. Our Buckinghamshire coverage includes Fleet Marston. You can also see our page for Milton Keynes.

FAQs for Fleet Marston
Do you carry out roof surveys in Fleet Marston?
Yes, Fleet Marston is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Fleet Marston?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
How long will you be at the property?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the report shows where to look more closely.
How much does a thermal roof survey cost?
It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.
What does a thermal roof survey show?
The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, which we then check with moisture readings.
What happens after the survey?
You’ll get the report by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.
Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Fleet Marston
Some defects simply can’t be seen with the eye. Trapped moisture, missing insulation and hidden heat loss are three examples. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Leaks that are hard to trace
For businesses in and around places such as Friars Square, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- When you will get the report
What a survey costs
We confirm the price for your survey before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- The size of the roof
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
Booking your survey
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- The property’s address and postcode
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Anything about access we should know
When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.
Different roofs, different checks
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
These coverings sit directly on the layers beneath, so temperature differences often show through. We confirm any patterns with moisture readings.
GRP fibreglass roofs
GRP surfaces can be shiny, which affects thermal readings. We allow for reflections and confirm findings with moisture readings.
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
What we do, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. It normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere like Fleet Marston needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
How to prepare
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
Booking a survey
Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.
Advice
Tips from our surveys
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
- Photograph damp patches with the date
- Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
Once we have been, the thermal images, photos and readings go into a single report. We explain what each image may mean, alongside what we recommend. With a Premium Survey, you get the report the same day.
Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.
