Thermal roof surveys near Great Western Park

DIY checks: what’s safe

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Thermal roof survey in Great Western Park: what you get

Thermal imaging is frequently most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can hide what’s below, so we combine the camera with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access. We survey insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and flat roofs, and people most often book us about damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and ceilings that feel colder in places.

Older cottages and houses around Great Western Park may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Great Western Park

Do you carry out roof surveys in Great Western Park?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and Great Western Park is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a few details.

Will you come out to Great Western Park?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?

Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.

Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?

It often helps show where to look. Patterns can suggest where trapped water has spread. We combine it with a visual inspection and moisture readings because the camera cannot confirm water on its own.

The survey, step by step

We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit normally takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Parking around Great Western Park is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from the ground, with the loft showing the underside.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. We check the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Let us know where we can park nearby

Why it’s worth a survey now in Great Western Park

A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so improvements can go where they’re needed. Arranging work in a smaller place like Great Western Park is easier with notice than in an emergency. A survey gives you that notice.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, access and the package you choose.

Airspace, weather and Great Western Park roofs

With Clifton Hampden Manor about 4.4 miles north-east, Great Western Park sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Matthew, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. If you look after a building like GEMS Didcot Primary Academy, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Great Western Park is about 1 mile west of Didcot, in Oxfordshire. Great Western Park gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. When you need someone else

No survey can tell you everything, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
  • The condition of timbers we cannot see

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. Surveys run on any day of the week, which can make access easier.

How the survey changes by roof type

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Built-up felt and asphalt roofs can hide trapped water for a long time. The camera can give clues to where it’s sitting, when the conditions allow.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.
