How the survey works

We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. In a hamlet or village like Hall's Green, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Before we arrive

  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Thermal roof survey in Hall's Green: what you get

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, so it’s easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. Premium reports are sent the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We survey commercial roofs, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are leaks that are hard to trace and missing or slipped insulation.

Older buildings in small places like Hall's Green may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

What we can’t see

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • A formal energy assessment
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • The condition of timbers we cannot see

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

Questions from Hall's Green

Do you carry out roof surveys in Hall's Green?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, and Hall's Green is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.

Do you cover smaller places like Hall's Green?

Yes, Hall's Green is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?

The camera doesn’t see water itself. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, but we check each finding with moisture readings.

How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?

A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat loss. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Which survey includes thermal imaging?

It’s part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

Useful tips for Hall's Green property owners

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Note where damp appears and after what weather
  • Use the report as a baseline for later checks
  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch

Where a pattern cannot be confirmed, the report says what could help, like electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.

Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. Less standing water means less chance of it getting under the covering.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Different roofs, different checks

Loft insulation

Insulation often gets moved during work in the loft. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Many single-ply and EPDM roofs sit on insulation boards. If water gets under them, thermal imaging can suggest which boards are wet.

Leave it or get it looked at?

The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Drones, thermal imaging and Hall's Green roofs

Historic houses such as Knole House, about 3.1 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Hall's Green goes. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

If you live in an older home near Church of St George, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Weald Community Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
