Thermal roof surveys near Hollington

Thermal roof survey in Hollington

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, so it is easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. If you are worried about thin or uneven insulation in the roof and leaks far from where the stain appears, we can find out what’s behind it.

Around Hollington, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image frequently shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

What we look for on each type of roof

GRP fibreglass roofs

Water can get through cracked GRP into the deck. We combine a visual check of cracks with the thermal images around them.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Slate and tile roofs are often harder to read with a thermal camera, because of the air space beneath. We back up what the camera shows with a look in the loft where we can.

What affects the price in Hollington

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Helping us price your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

Booking is simple: just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email, let us know about the property and we will point you to the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

How it works

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos. On timing, most surveys take an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Being in a smaller place like Hollington doesn’t change how the visit works: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. It helps to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets in another room
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Arrange a survey

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so call 07833 053749 or email us with the details.

Advice

Flying and imaging in Hollington

The coast is about 2 miles or less from Hollington, and wind off the sea can be strong. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Anne, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Hollington questions

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hollington?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Is Hollington in the area you cover?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it’s applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Does someone need to be in?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Hollington

After a repair, some owners want to know whether the roof has dried out. A thermal survey with moisture readings can show whether wet areas remain, given suitable conditions on the day.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Heat escaping through the roof
  • Gaps in loft insulation
  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Damp that repairs haven’t cured

Anyone responsible for a site like Hollington Primary Academy will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
