Hollow Street Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof for Hollow Street and the rest of Kent. We survey seven days a week.
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
Flying and imaging in Hollow Street
The coast is about 4 miles or less from Hollow Street. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Take a building like Chislet Church of England Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Mary the Virgin, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
Hollow Street is about 3 miles south-east of Herne Bay, in Kent. We carry out thermal roof surveys in Hollow Street for houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings, with a written report and photographs every time. Our Kent coverage includes Hollow Street. You can also see our page for Canterbury.
We survey roofs across CT3 for thermal roof surveys and the streets around it. We also cover the places around Hollow Street: Chislet (1 mile north-east), Chitty (1 mile north-east), Old Tree (1 mile north-west), Boyden Gate (1 mile north) and Hoath (1 mile west). We also work in nearby towns such as Canterbury (6 miles south-west), Margate (9 miles east), Dover (14 miles south), Ramsgate (10 miles east), Broadstairs (11 miles east) and Whitstable (7 miles west).

How a thermal roof survey works in Hollow Street
Thermal imaging is useful when a damp patch has no clear cause. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. If you’ve noticed thin or uneven insulation in the roof and damp around roof outlets and upstands, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as Hollow Street, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What you can safely check yourself
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
For landlords and managing agents
With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.
What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Which survey package you book
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Roof area
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.
What to tell us when you contact us
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
- Anything about access we should know
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- What’s prompted the survey
Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know the cost up front. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Why get it checked now?
If a big flat roof may need replacing, knowing the wet areas first is useful. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you commit. In a place like Hollow Street, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Why us?

Useful tips for Hollow Street property owners
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
- Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive
You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Because the images are paired with photos, it is easy to find each area on the roof.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.
Hollow Street questions
Do you cover Hollow Street?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and Hollow Street is part of that. You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Is Hollow Street within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How quickly is the report sent?
That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them.
Can a thermal camera see water?
The camera does not see water itself. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, but we check each finding with moisture readings.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest.
What we do, step by step
We will ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Somewhere as small as Hollow Street, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Before we arrive
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
