Thermal imaging roof survey in Hook, Hampshire
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof around Hook, with a written report you can act on. Book a weekday or weekend visit.
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
Thermal roof survey in Hook: what you get
Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photos, so it is easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We are frequently asked to look into wet insulation beneath the membrane and damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys, across pitched roof slopes, insulated roof spaces and commercial roofs.
Older cottages and houses around Hook may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Thermal roof surveys around Hook
If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
With Stratfield Saye House about 4.8 miles north, the area around Hook has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself. Take an older house close to St John the Evangelist: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.
Hook is about 5 miles west of Fleet, in Hampshire. If you are in Hook, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: a call or an email, a price, then a date. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire. For surveys nearby, see our Reading page.

What a survey costs
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- House, block, shop or office
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.
What to tell us when you contact us
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you get in touch, it’s useful to mention:
- When you need the report by
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Can I check my roof myself?
It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking, as it helps us focus the survey.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Questions from Hook
Do you cover Hook?
Yes, Hook is within the area we cover. We work right across London and the South East. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property.
Is Hook within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access when booking.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.
How the survey works
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. A visit to Hook is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

Useful tips for Hook property owners
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Check the loft can be reached safely
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
Buyers can use the findings when talking to the seller or agent. It’s your decision how to use it, whether you ask for work before completion or discuss the price.
Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water does not sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.
For landlords and managing agents
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer.
Common roof problems in Hook
Some defects simply can’t be seen with the eye. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are frequently invisible from outside. Thermal imaging gives us another way to look for them.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hook Junior School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- What experience they bring
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Whether you get a written report with photos
