About our thermal roof survey in West Green

Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging frequently helps most. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are often harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. If you’ve noticed possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and missing or slipped insulation, we can find out what’s behind it, on insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and pitched roof slopes alike.

Somewhere as small as West Green, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we do, step by step

The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. All told, expect about one to two hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere as small as West Green, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

Advice

Drones, thermal imaging and West Green roofs

If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Historic houses such as Stratfield Saye House, about 4.6 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around West Green goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

If you look after a building like Greenfields Junior School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Hart Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. If you live in an older home near St Mary's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

West Green is about 4 miles north-west of Fleet, in Hampshire. Whether the building in West Green is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed on a weekday or at the weekend. Across Hampshire, we cover West Green. There is also a page for Reading.

How we price thermal roof surveys

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What to let us know when you get in touch

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date

To book a survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price before booking.

What we look for on each type of roof

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Water often gets in where roofs meet walls, parapets or valley gutters. Thermal imaging can help show damp patterns around them.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

On larger commercial single-ply roofs, thermal imaging can help target moisture readings. It focuses the survey on the areas that matter.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in West Green

How do I find out if my home in West Green is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Is West Green in the area you cover?

Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and West Green is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the property.

Will the camera show exactly where the water is?

Not directly. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. That’s why we check any patterns with moisture readings.

When does the report arrive?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.

How do I book a survey in West Green?

To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

What this survey can’t tell you

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Confirming water without moisture readings
  • A formal energy assessment
  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we check

  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Flat roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes

Landlord and commercial surveys in West Green

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.

Practical tips

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
  • Keep the report to compare against after any repair
  • Make sure the loft can be reached safely
  • Heat the home normally on the days before

You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.

Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Catching a leak early stops insulation getting soaked.
