Thermal roof surveys for Hucking homes and businesses

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hucking

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where it applies, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There’s an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. If you are worried about damp around roof outlets and upstands and wet insulation beneath the membrane, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In a small place like Hucking, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

The survey, step by step

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take an hour or two for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. Older roofs in small places like Hucking can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

How to book

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Hucking

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer.

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.

How the survey changes by roof type

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP surfaces can be shiny, which affects thermal readings. We take that into account and check findings with moisture readings.

Loft insulation

Insulation often gets moved during work in the loft. Thermal images can show where it has been pushed aside.

What we cannot see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
  • Confirming water without moisture readings

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll suggest the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
  • Commercial roofs
  • Flat roofs

Airspace, weather and Hucking roofs

Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Take an older house close to Church of St Margaret: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

How we price thermal roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Roof area
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Booking your survey

If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. The price is agreed before a date is set.

When to book a survey in Hucking

On big commercial and residential flat roofs, thermal imaging helps owners plan. It can suggest which areas may be wet and which seem dry, so moisture readings can be targeted.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
  • Water getting in at parapets and stacks
  • Water that travels before it shows
  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water

Historic houses like Leeds Castle, about 3.2 miles south, show how far back building around Hucking goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.

What to check before booking

  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?

FAQs for Hucking

Will you come out to Hucking?

Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Hucking?

Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Hucking is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details, and we will talk through which survey suits.

Do you use drones?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?

On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

When does the report arrive?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.
