Jacob's Post Thermal Roof Survey

A careful look at the roof at your property in Jacob's Post, and put it all in a photo-illustrated written report.

  • Damp that repairs haven’t cured
  • Heat escaping through the roof
  • Thin or uneven insulation in the roof

Thermal roof surveys in Jacob's Post

Leave it or get it looked at?

The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. Older and listed buildings around Jacob's Post may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Why us?

  • Surveys on any day of the week
  • Photographs and a written report every time
  • 5,000+ surveys completed
  • An independent view of the roof

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Jacob's Post

Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photographs, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey ceilings below the roof, pitched roof slopes and loft conversions, and common reasons people get in touch are water that travels before it shows and damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys.

Some older homes in villages like Jacob's Post are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

What we are asked to look at in Jacob's Post

Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, particularly when there’s a clear difference between inside and outside.

People normally book a survey when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Leaks far from where the stain appears
  • Cold areas below the roof
  • Missing or slipped insulation

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Providence Strict Baptist Chapel, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Their report turnaround times
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey

What a roof survey includes

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Jacob's Post

Ockenden Manor, about 3.2 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Jacob's Post. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as The Gattons Infant School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Jacob's Post

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Jacob's Post?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is Jacob's Post within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

What does a thermal roof survey show?

It records surface temperature across the roof. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.

What’s the best way to book?

The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or email us. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll point you to the right survey. Surveys run seven days a week.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

What do I do with the report?

The report arrives by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Are you insured?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

Tips from our surveys

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:

  • Leave the roof to people with safe access
  • Keep a record of when stains appear
  • Use the report as a baseline for later checks
  • Check outlets after heavy rain

Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.

Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.

What happens on the day

It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes an hour or two for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. For a village or hamlet like Jacob's Post, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
