About our thermal roof survey in Margery

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, so it’s easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We survey loft conversions, ceilings below the roof and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions.

Somewhere as small as Margery, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Thermal roof surveys in Margery: local notes

Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

The streets around a church like Church of Jesus Christ and the Wisdom of God are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Belfry, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see by drone or thermal camera.

Common roof problems in Margery

After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Damp around roof outlets and upstands
  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Gaps in loft insulation
  • Damp around chimneys and parapets

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Kingswood Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What to check before booking

  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

What a roof survey includes

What affects the price in Margery

Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • The roof’s overall size

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Booking your survey

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel

We confirm the price for your roof before booking, so you know where you stand. Prices start from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Why get it checked now?

Heat lost through a roof costs money every winter. Thermal images can show where insulation is missing or has slipped, so you know where to put things right. Around Margery, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What you get with us

  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • An independent view of the roof
  • Prices that include VAT
  • Drone flown under a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

What we can’t see

We only report what can safely be seen on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof

The survey, step by step

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, from the ground, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Older roofs in small places like Margery can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Getting a price

Getting a price is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, let us know about the property and we’ll suggest the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

Common questions in Margery

Is my home in Margery listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Will you come out to Margery?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the report shows where to look more closely.

Will I get photos?

Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

How long will you be at the property?

It usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.

What you can safely check yourself

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
