Tips that help

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
  • Keep the report to compare against after any repair
  • Note where damp appears and after what weather
  • Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn

Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.

Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Northumberland Park

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We survey ceilings below the roof, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are heat escaping through the roof and wet insulation beneath the membrane.

London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

What this survey cannot tell you

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Flat roofs
  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Loft conversions

Checking the roof from the ground

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

Questions from Northumberland Park

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Northumberland Park?

Sometimes, yes. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well.

Are there drone restrictions around Northumberland Park?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

What happens after the survey?

You’ll get the report by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.

How quickly is the report sent?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

Do you cover Northumberland Park for thermal roof surveys?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes Northumberland Park.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Common roof problems in Northumberland Park

Some buyers want extra detail before they commit to a purchase. A Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where it applies and a same-day report, which helps when timescales are tight.

Problems we come across often include:

  • Moisture around outlets and upstands
  • Leaks far from where the stain appears
  • Cold areas below the roof
  • Missing or slipped insulation

If you run a business near Edmonton Green Shopping Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • What follow-up you get after the report

What a roof survey includes

Thermal roof surveys around Northumberland Park

Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Northumberland Park, along with any off-street space. If you look after a building like Lea Valley Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Why act early in Northumberland Park

Repeated repairs that don’t stop a leak are a sign the source hasn’t been traced. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, instead of trying repair after repair. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. That’s a good reason to find problems early, while there is time to plan.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

The survey, step by step

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in Northumberland Park moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Tell us who holds the keys.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Before the survey

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
