Drone roof surveys in Northumberland Park: local notes

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. About 0.8 miles south-west lies Bruce Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Northumberland Park has been built on. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

If you live in an older home near St Paul's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Edmonton Green Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see by drone or thermal camera. If you look after a building such as Lea Valley Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Northumberland Park is about 1 mile north-east of Tottenham, in Greater London. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Northumberland Park can all book drone roof surveys. Northumberland Park is one of the places in Greater London where we work for drone roof surveys. Our London page covers surveys nearby.

Drone roof surveys in N17 and N18 are booked the same way as anywhere else. We offer drone roof surveys to properties on Love Lane, Park Lane and York Road. If you’re just outside Northumberland Park, we cover Upper Edmonton (1 mile north-west), Edmonton (1 mile north), South Chingford (1 mile east), Picketts Lock (2 miles north-east) and Highams Park (2 miles east). Within a short drive, we also cover London (7 miles south), City of Westminster (7 miles south-west), Marylebone (7 miles south-west), Kensington (10 miles south-west), St Pancras (6 miles south-west) and Shoreditch (6 miles south).

Drone roof survey in Northumberland Park

Drone roof surveys are available in Northumberland Park and throughout London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. Common reasons to book are ponding and splits on a high flat roof and hidden gutters full of leaves, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Northumberland Park as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Leave it or get it looked at?

It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. Our report shows the condition of each area, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. Any roof job in Northumberland Park means planning around parking, neighbours and access. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and the package you choose.

Northumberland Park: your questions answered

Is drone flying allowed in Northumberland Park?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is parking a problem for a survey in Northumberland Park?

Normally it is manageable with a little notice. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we will work around them.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Do you look in the roof space?

If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof frequently shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.

When you need someone else

It helps to know what a survey will not do before booking:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we look at

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

How it works

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it is useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Find any records of previous roof work

Advice

Tips that help

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
