Thermal roof survey in Palmarsh: what you get

A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so the findings don’t rely on the camera alone. If you’ve noticed water that travels before it shows and cold areas below the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Even in a smaller place like Palmarsh, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Palmarsh questions

Do you cover Palmarsh?

Yes, Palmarsh is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Palmarsh as anywhere else.

Will you come out to Palmarsh?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?

It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. It shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.

What will the report tell me?

A photo-illustrated written report, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

What insurance do you have?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Tell us about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Homes around Palmarsh frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

Before we arrive

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Tell us about parking before the day

Advice

What we are asked to look at in Palmarsh

Some defects simply can’t be seen with the eye. Trapped moisture, missing insulation and hidden heat loss are three examples. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.

Here are some of the things we see often:

  • Moisture around outlets and upstands
  • Damp that repairs haven’t cured
  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Holy Cross, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Before booking anyone

  • Are they insured for the work?

What a roof survey includes

What affects the price in Palmarsh

To price your survey, we check:

  • Roof area
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • House, block, shop or office
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

What we need to know

A few details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, it helps to mention:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • Anything about access we should know
  • The kind of building and roof involved

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know where you stand. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Palmarsh

Without thermal imaging, the only way to see how far water has spread is often to open up the roof. That helps you and your roofer decide what really needs replacing. In a smaller place like Palmarsh, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing doesn’t stay loose for long. Wind gets under it and lifts more, and water follows.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Palmarsh

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed beforehand. Surveys run on any day of the week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work around your tenants.
