Thermal roof surveys around Park Wood
The coast is about 4 miles or less from Park Wood, and wind off the sea can be strong. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. Historic houses like Restoration House, about 4.9 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Park Wood goes. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Park Wood Infant School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Thermal roof survey in Park Wood
Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. The difference shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. If you’ve noticed damp patches with no obvious cause and cold areas below the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Around Park Wood, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.
The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

What we’re asked to look at in Park Wood
After a repair, some owners want to know whether the roof has dried out. A thermal survey with moisture readings can show whether wet areas remain, given suitable conditions on the day.
It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Paul's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
What to check before booking
- Whether VAT is added on top
- What follow-up you get after the report
- When you will get the report
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
Can I check my roof myself?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

What we do, step by step
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. A visit to Park Wood is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- We check the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
- You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Tips that help
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Because the images are paired with photos, it is easy to find each area on the roof.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.
How we price thermal roof surveys
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.
What we need to know
We will typically ask about:
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- The property’s address and postcode
- Anything about access we should know
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Park Wood
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant in advance.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Park Wood questions
Is Park Wood in the area you cover?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Park Wood as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Park Wood?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Can a thermal camera see water?
The camera does not see water itself. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, but we check each finding with moisture readings.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
