Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Penn
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where it applies, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. If you’re worried about leaks far from where the stain appears and damp that repairs haven’t cured, we can find out what’s behind it.
Villages like Penn often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Flying and imaging in Penn
Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. Hughenden Manor, about 2.9 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Penn. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Anyone responsible for a site like Tylers Green First School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. If you run a business near Eden, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most. If you live in an older home near Church of St Margaret, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Penn is about 2 miles east of High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire. Whether the building in Penn is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof. Our Buckinghamshire coverage includes Penn and the places around it. You can also see our page for Reading.

Tips that help
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
- Check outlets after heavy rain
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
If you’re buying, the report gives you specific points to raise with the seller or agent. What you do with it is up to you, whether that’s asking for work or discussing the price.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Penn
Landlords, agents and building managers in Penn and across Buckinghamshire can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Tell us about it when booking and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
Why it is worth a survey now in Penn
Without thermal imaging, the only way to see how far water has spread is frequently to open up the roof. That helps you and your roofer decide what really needs replacing. Outbuildings and barns around Penn are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

FAQs for Penn
Will you come out to Penn?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is Penn in the area you cover?
Yes, Penn is within the area we cover. We work right across London and South East England. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and a few details about the roof. Surveys run seven days a week.
DIY checks: what’s safe
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
What happens on the day
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Penn, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Before the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

How the survey changes by roof type
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Even on pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp. We explain what can and can’t be read from them.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Junctions where roofs meet walls, parapets and valleys are common places for water to get in. The camera can help show damp around these junctions.
