A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.

Thermal roof survey in Roehampton

On a flat roof, wet insulation holds heat longer than dry insulation. So a wet patch can show as a warmer or cooler area on the camera. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, which is hard to judge by eye. Moisture readings are then used to check what the camera suggests. We survey ceilings below the roof, pitched roof slopes and insulated roof spaces, and people most frequently book us about heat escaping through the roof and cold areas below the roof.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A damp patch that keeps coming back typically has a cause that hasn’t been found. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, rather than more guesswork. Many older London roofs have only old felt under the slates, or no underlay at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.

What affects the price in Roehampton

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:

  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Roof area
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT, and we will tell you which fits.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • What made you get in touch
  • When you need the report by
  • The address and postcode of the property

Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form, let us know about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

What happens on the day

Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Roehampton we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. If other people live in the building, let us know who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

How to prepare

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

Related advice

Different roofs, different checks

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Water often gets in where roofs meet walls, parapets or valley gutters. Thermal imaging can help show damp patterns around them.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

These coverings sit directly on the layers beneath, so temperature differences often show through. Any patterns are checked with moisture readings.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Roehampton

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Roehampton?

It depends on the street. If Roehampton has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer.

Is drone flying allowed in Roehampton?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Roehampton is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.

What happens after the survey?

The report arrives by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.

Do you work in Roehampton?

Yes, we do. Roehampton is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.

Will I get photos?

Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details as you book.

What insurance do you have?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Airspace, weather and Roehampton roofs

The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea comes within about 1 mile of Roehampton. If your survey includes the drone, the exact boundary is checked for the address first. With Fulham Palace about 1.3 miles north-east, Roehampton sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you live in an older home near St Margaret's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. As a London address, Roehampton can be tricky for parking: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier.

Roehampton is about 2 miles south-west of Fulham, in Greater London. Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Roehampton

Once a leak has been fixed, people often ask whether the roof is still wet. A thermal survey with moisture readings can show whether wet areas remain when the conditions on the day are suitable.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
  • Moisture around outlets and upstands
  • Cold areas below the roof
  • Leaks far from where the stain appears

If you look after a building such as Granard Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What insurance they carry
  • When you will get the report
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Whether VAT is added on top
