Roof leak investigations in Roehampton

Roof leak investigation in Roehampton

Some leaks only appear in certain weather. Driving rain from one direction, melting snow or a gutter that overflows in a downpour can all set it off. Notes on when it leaks, and what the weather was doing, help us, along with any photos you’ve taken. Even on a dry day, a leak usually leaves clues: stained timbers, tide marks and damp underlay. Moisture readings show where materials are still wet. If you are worried about water marks that spread in wet weather and a leak that comes and goes with the weather, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on lead flashings, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks alike.

In a London flat, water can travel some way before it shows. That makes the source hard to pin down, and finding it matters for whoever has to deal with it. We look at what we are given access to in Roehampton, inside and out. Tell us when the water shows, and in what kind of weather.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

The survey, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours, more where the leak is intermittent or the roof is large. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Roehampton we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Let us know who holds the keys.

  1. You pick a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends.
  3. We inspect inside and out, starting from the stain.
  4. Where it is useful and included, we take moisture readings and use thermal imaging.
  5. The report explains the likely entry point and what needs attention.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking before the day
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Roof leak investigations in Roehampton: local notes

About 1.3 miles north-east lies Fulham Palace, a reminder of how long the area around Roehampton has been built on. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. Hips, bay roofs and later loft conversions are typical of those semis, if your home is one of them. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.

Trees in and around Putney Heath shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters. Take a building like Granard Primary School: a leak through a large roof is frequently found some distance from where the water shows inside.

Prices for roof leak investigations in Roehampton

Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Helping us price your survey

A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:

  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors

Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us a few details about the property and we will recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

Do you need a roof leak investigation in Roehampton?

Some water in the loft is not rain at all. Moist air from bathrooms and kitchens condenses on the cold underside of the roof, especially where ventilation is poor. Drips from nails and damp underlay are typical signs.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Wet patches on loft insulation
  • Water through the ceiling under a flat roof
  • Leaks that appear only in driving rain
  • Damp walls below an overflowing gutter

For businesses in and around places such as Putney Exchange, a leak can close part of a shop or office, so finding the cause quickly matters.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

What a roof survey includes

Tips that help

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Mention any plumbing above the damp area
  • Don’t touch fittings that water is reaching
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can get in
  • Record whether it leaks in every downpour or only some

If there are several possible sources, we list them in order of likelihood. We say which items need prompt attention, so you know what to deal with first.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile in the garden mean something has moved. Prompt repairs stop gaps turning into leaks.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Roehampton

A small drip today can be a bigger leak after the next storm. Wind lifts loose slates further and gaps widen. An investigation now gives you time to plan the work. Any roof job in Roehampton means planning around parking, neighbours and access. That is a good reason to find problems early, while there’s time to plan.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Why us?

  • Thermal imaging and drones used where they help
  • Plain-English reports with photos
  • More than 5,000 surveys completed

Common questions in Roehampton

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Roehampton?

In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Roehampton?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Are you insured?

We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it’s applicable. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.

Can a leak be traced on a dry day?

In many cases, yes. Leaks leave clues, such as staining, damp timber and moisture in materials. Some leaks only show in particular weather, so photos and notes from when it leaks help a lot.

How do I book a survey in Roehampton?

Simply phone 07833 053749 or email us. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.

What you can safely check yourself

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
