FAQs for Roehampton
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Roehampton?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Roehampton?
It depends on the street. If Roehampton has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer, and a driveway is even better.
Do you act for me with my insurer?
No. We’re not loss adjusters, and we don’t negotiate claims. We provide an independent record of the roof, which you can pass to your insurer.
How should I record storm damage myself?
Please do not climb onto the roof. Photograph the damage from below or from a window. Record the date and any damage inside as well.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
What’s the best way to book?
Simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
Who handles emergency protection after a storm?
A roofer should handle temporary protection. Photograph the damage first if you can do so safely. We can record the damage in our report.
Storm damage roof report in Roehampton
Most policies do not cover wear and tear. So it matters whether the damage came from the storm or from a roof that was already worn. We note signs of each: fresh breaks and recently moved slates or tiles, and older problems such as corroded nails or worn mortar. We describe what we see, whichever way it points. Your insurer then decides how its policy applies. Typical surveys look at flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and flat roof edges peeled back, across flashings, ridges and hips and flat roofs.
Water getting into a London home frequently comes from a detail you can’t see from the street: the valley gutter in a butterfly roof, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or the flat roof over a rear extension. Whether you are tracing a leak or recording storm damage in Roehampton, those are among the first places to look. A hidden gutter that overflows can send water a long way before it shows.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Roehampton roofs and the weather
Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. If your home in Roehampton is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. Historic houses such as Fulham Palace, about 1.3 miles north-east, show how far back building in the area around Roehampton goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.
If you let a flat or house near Barnes station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. For businesses in and around places like Putney Exchange, a quick answer on where water is coming in keeps a business running.

Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- File receipts for anything you pay for
- Photograph the damage safely from below
- Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe
- Look at what your policy says about wear and tear
Once we have been, the findings are written up with photos. It sets out what is damaged, the likely cause and any signs of older wear. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.
Store invoices and reports for any roof work. They can help show the roof was looked after.
What we’re asked to look at in Roehampton
Gusts work at anything on a roof that’s loose or exposed. Rain can then blow in where slates or tiles have gone. People typically call us after a storm, once they’ve noticed damage or a leak.
People normally book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Damaged pots on the stack
- Roofs hit by falling trees
- Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
- Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
If you look after a building such as Granard Primary School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.
Choosing a roof surveyor

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Roof area
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £150, including VAT.
Getting in touch
Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- When you need the report by
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.
How the survey works
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. For a visit in Roehampton, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at what can safely be seen from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it is safe, the roof itself.
- You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
Before we arrive
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Leave side gates unlocked

How the survey changes by roof type
Lead flashings
When flashings lift, water can get behind them. The report records the flashing and any damp inside.
Slate roofs
Slates can slip or blow off in a storm, particularly where the nails have corroded. Our report notes moved slates and any sign of older corrosion.
