Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Rush Green
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so the findings do not rely on the camera alone. Typical surveys look at leaks far from where the stain appears and cold areas below the roof, across loft conversions, flat roofs and pitched roof slopes.
Somewhere as small as Rush Green, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Booking your survey
A little information up front helps. It helps to include:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
We survey roofs seven days a week. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
What you can safely check yourself
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
What we look for on each type of roof
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water can get through cracked GRP into the deck. We check cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there’s a pattern around them.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Many single-ply and EPDM roofs sit on insulation boards. If water gets under them, thermal imaging can suggest which boards are wet.

Rush Green: your questions answered
Is Rush Green in the area you cover?
Yes, Rush Green is within the area we cover. We work right across London and South East England. You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
How do I find out if my home in Rush Green is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details when booking.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we also look from the loft where it is safe.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
Conditions on the day affect the results. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Rain and strong wind can make the images less clear, so we discuss the forecast when booking.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Rush Green
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey seven days a week, which can make access easier.
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.
What happens on the day
We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take about one to two hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Somewhere like Rush Green needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Before the survey
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Let us know about parking before the day

Airspace, weather and Rush Green roofs
An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help.
Anyone responsible for a site like Wheatcroft Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Take an older house close to Church of the Holy Trinity: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Useful tips for Rush Green property owners
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:
- Do not switch the heating off before the visit
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.
Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.
