About our thermal roof survey in Tackley
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. You also get a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. Typical surveys look at damp patches with no obvious cause and cold spots on ceilings under the roof, across insulated roof spaces, ceilings below the roof and flat roofs.
In a small place like Tackley, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

Thermal roof surveys around Tackley
With Blenheim Palace about 3.8 miles south-west, Tackley sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
If you look after a building such as Tackley Church of England Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Nicholas, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before and after the survey
Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Catching a leak early stops insulation getting soaked.
How the survey changes by roof type
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
On felt and asphalt flat roofs, wet insulation can show as a temperature difference across the surface. We check those patches with moisture readings.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Inside the roof space, thermal images can help with damp around stacks, valleys and roof windows. Findings are checked with moisture readings.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Tackley
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Larger roofs take longer.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.

The survey, step by step
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Rural addresses near Tackley can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Getting ready for the survey
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Advice
Checking the roof from ground level
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Tackley: your questions answered
Is Tackley in the area you cover?
Yes, Tackley is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Tackley as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Is Tackley within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?
The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.
What insurance do you have?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
What will the report tell me?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.
What happens after the survey?
You’ll get the report by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
