Tendring Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof for Tendring and the rest of Essex. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
How we price thermal roof surveys
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The roof’s overall size
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
Every price we give includes VAT. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.
Helping us price your survey
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- The property’s address and postcode
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
We survey roofs on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Thermal roof survey in Tendring: what you get
Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. The camera does not see water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings. It comes as part of our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. We survey ceilings below the roof, pitched roof slopes and insulated roof spaces, and the problems we are asked to look at most are patches of heat loss across the roof and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering.
Older buildings in small places like Tendring may be listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Thermal roof surveys around Tendring
Tendring is within about 4 miles of the coast. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. With Thorpe Hall about 2.8 miles south-east, Tendring sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Take an older house close to Church of St Edmund: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building such as Tendring Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Tendring is about 5 miles north of Clacton-on-Sea, in Essex. We carry out thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Tendring. Tendring is one of the towns and villages in Essex where we work. We also survey roofs in Chelmsford.
Every address in CO16 is covered for thermal roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. We also cover the places around Tendring: Weeley (1 mile south), Tendring Green (1 mile north), Far Thorpe Green (1 mile south-east), Tendring Heath (2 miles north) and Thorpe Green (2 miles east). We also work in nearby towns such as Colchester (9 miles west), Clacton-on-Sea (5 miles south), Harwich (8 miles north-east), Camulodunum (10 miles west), Greenstead (8 miles west) and Wivenhoe (7 miles west).

Checking the roof from ground level
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

Common questions in Tendring
Do you cover smaller places like Tendring?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Tendring?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?
It can be useful, though pitched roofs are typically harder to read. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show.
How long will you be at the property?
Most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. The report follows by email.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day.
What we can’t see
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- A structural engineer’s assessment
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Insulated roof spaces
- Loft conversions
- Ceilings below the roof
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
What we do, step by step
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. For a village or hamlet like Tendring, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Getting ready for the survey
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
How to book
Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Advice
Tips from our surveys
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Photograph damp patches with the date
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.
After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry in suitable weather.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Tendring
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the addresses.
